Warning: ‘Destiny 2’ Players Are Missing Tons Of Loot By Rushing Its New Vex Mission

I always try to use my platform here for good, and in this case, I am trying to save a whole lot of headaches in Destiny 2, my own included. The new, basic seasonal activity for Destiny 2’s Echoes mission is called Breach Executable and has two encounters and a boss. And players are missing a ton of loot during the mission and manually forcing all other players to miss it as well. It’s not great.

So what am I talking about? Well, during the mission on Nessus, in between the first and second encounter, and the second encounter and the boss, if you have resource detector on your ghost (which you should) you will see indicators for plants everywhere that are actually “samples.”

You pick those up, they “weigh” a certain amount, and when you reach 200 kg total, you can dunk them at the end of the mission or in the HELM for a bunch of bonus, very good loot. But the key way to collect these is with a new item called a Piston Hammer which is given to you in week one here. It works like the old Caiatl hammer did, sort of, where you get charges from running different activities, and then you use the hammer during the mission to spawn probably 8-10 other resource nodes when you activate it at one of two sites that spawns.

This would be great, in theory, except almost nobody understands you’re supposed to do this. So what happens is that when you are looking for the hammer activator column (among 50 other Vex columns that look similar) your teammates can race ahead and cause a “joining allies” that will prevent your search or pull you away even after you’ve spent a charge but didn’t have time to collect the spawn materials. This happens especially right before the boss fight, which is extremely irritating.

This is bad for everyone, because when you collect these resources, it gives them to your whole team, so the people that skip are themselves missing out on easy loot as well. And this is good loot, much better than what you get from a normal, completion. I’ve gotten 3-4 armor pieces and weapons at a time, red border weapons, Failsafe samples, exotics (not engrams, actual exotics) and Ascendant materials from these resource dumps. But pretty much every mission I’m getting 0-50% of the materials I might otherwise get if people just slowed down and helped look for resources and the hammer.

So that’s why I’m writing this PSA, to let everyone know about this system as the game explains it rather poorly, and to get everyone to slow down and hunt for this stuff so you can effectively triple the loot you’re getting from these (rather dulls) things. Bungie, I would suggest preventing Joining Allies for this stuff or marking the hammer with a giant indicator between segments, as this is deeply annoying.

Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
